Maryland basketball player Darryl Morsell has successful surgery to repair facial fracture

Maryland basketball player Darryl Morsell had successful surgery on Friday, the program announced.
He’s expected to miss 1-2 weeks with the injury.

Morsell suffered a blow to the face during the Terps’ game vs. Michigan on Thursday night. The result was an indentation in the side of his face.

Maryland was able to keep it close vs. the Wolverines, but ultimately fell 84-73. Morsell started the game and contributed four points, three rebounds and one assist.
Morsell is a senior guard who is averaging 7.7 points per game this season. He’s helped lead the Terps to a 6-5 record to start of the 2020-21 campaign.
Maryland’s next game is against Indiana on Jan. 4.
Timing-wise, this isn’t great for the Terps as this injury falls during a difficult portion of their schedule. If Morsell is out for the full two weeks, he’ll miss games vs. the Hoosiers, No. 10 Iowa and No. 15 Indiana. He’d theoretically be available to return vs. Nebraska on Jan. 16.
