Maryland names Tyrrell Pigrome starting QB for Week 1 vs. Texas

D.J. Durkin has made the decision and Tyrrell Pigrome is the guy.
On Monday, after keeping the quarterback battle a secret through most of fall camp, Durkin finally revealed that Pigrome would be the started for Maryland’s Week 1 bout against Texas.
Roman Stubbs of the Washington Post tweeted the news:
Tyrrell Pigrome has been named Maryland’s starting quarterback. Kasim Hill is the backup, Max Bortenschlager third string.

Freshman Kasim Hill will be the backup and Max Bortenschlager fills in as third string. Caleb Henderson, who’s missed some practice this fall due to injury, was not listed.
Pigrome played in 11 games for the Terrapins last season, completing 37-of-71 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns, along with two interceptions. But the mobile quarterback also proved to be a threat with his feet, rushing for 254 yards and four touchdowns on 62 carries.
He provides Maryland with that dual-threat ability, as opposed to the pocket presence from a gunslinger like Bortenschlager.
It’ll be interesting to see if Durkin sticks with Pigrome for the entire game against Texas or if Hill or Bortenschlager work their way into the game at some point.
