Maryland lacrosse on the brink of National Championship, undefeated season

Maryland lacrosse is one game away from a dream season.
The No. 3 Terps will face No. 4 Virginia on Monday in the National Championship Game, as Maryland (15-0) looks to become the first undefeated National Champion since the Cavaliers accomplished that feat in 2006.
Maryland shut down Duke in the national semifinals on Saturday by the score of 14-5.
“I think we were kind of easing into the game, a Final Four game,” star player Jared Bernhardt told the Washington Post. “We just kind of settled down a little bit. We know what we’re capable of [when we] get the ball moving.”

The Terps will try to channel that energy again on Monday as they face off vs. Virginia. The Cavaliers will be a tough opponent, especially coming off a narrow victory vs. No. 1-seeded North Carolina.
Bernhardt’s performance will likely be the key to Maryland’s chances. He has a school-record 94 points this season — 69 goals and 25 assists.
The National Championship Game will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. ET.
