Maryland QB announces retirement from football, becomes third gunslinger to depart Terps

Maryland has lost another quarterback this offseason, this time to retirement from the game.
Wednesday, Tyler DeSue announced via Twitter that he will no longer be pursuing a career in football and will put his playing days behind him. He was a member of Maryland’s 2018 recruiting class and spent two seasons with the Terrapins.
“Today is the day that I put my best foot forward and leave my playing days in the past,” DeSue wrote on Twitter. “I will remain at Maryland for the remainder of my undergrad and pursue the goal that has always mattered to me the most, graduating from college. If this rubs you the wrong way then so be it but this is the best decision for me and my future.”

DeSue appeared in nine career games with the Terps, including five in 2019. In his career, he completed 6-of-16 pass attempts for 104 yards and a touchdown and rushed for an additional score. He is now the third Maryland quarterback to depart from the program this offseason.
Max Bortenschlager and Tyrrell Pigrome have both entered their names in the NCAA transfer portal and will look for opportunities to play elsewhere. That leaves Maryland with Josh Jackson — last season’s primary starter — and former four-star recruit Lance LeGendre battling for the starting spot next season.
Maryland finished last season 3-9.
