Maryland quarterback and former 4-star recruit Lance LeGendre has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal. InsideMDSports.com reported the news.

LeGendre was the backup to Taulia Tagovailoa this season, a role he probably would’ve had for at least one more season. The former 4-star prospect appeared in three games for the Terrapins, completing 11-of-14 pass attempts for 91 yards with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Before the arrival of Tagovailoa, LeGendre was expected to be the starting quarterback at Maryland for the 2020 season. Now that he’d have to be sidelined for at least one more year, the Louisiana native has decided to look for opportunities elsewhere.

As a member of the 2019 recruiting class, LeGendre was ranked as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the country. He was one of the Top 300 overall prospects, according to 247Sports, coming in at No. 279.

LeGendre pulled in offers from two dozen programs on the recruiting trail. He picked Maryland over Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Miami, Missouir Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others.

There will likely be a lot of interest in LeGendre on the transfer market, as well. He spent two seasons at Maryland, but will still be classified as a redshirt freshman because of the NCAA’s waiver, granting all fall student-athletes and additional year of eligibility.
