Maryland is reportedly moving quickly to replace Rob Vaughn as the Terps head baseball coach is reportedly headed to Alabama.

Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball reported that the Terps would promote associate coach Matt Swope. Swope has been on the Maryland staff for many years, and was promoted a year ago to associate coach from assistant coach, his position for the previous 5 seasons.

Swope is also entering his 12th season overall on staff at Maryland after serving as the Terps’ director of operations for 5 seasons from 2013-2017.

Swope graduated from Maryland in 2003.

As a player (1999-2002) and staff member (2013-2022), Swope has been involved in 461 wins with his hometown team after he grew up in New Carrollton, Maryland.

He has helped the Terps advance to 6 NCAA Regionals in his time on staff, including 2 Super Regionals, the only 2 in school history. Swope has been a part of the 5 winningest seasons in Maryland history as a player or staff member (2002, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2022, 2023).
