Maryland set to hire former Texas State DC as safeties coach, per report

Former Texas State defensive coordinator Za Spavital is expected to become the new safeties coach at Maryland, sources told On3Sports Saturday.
Spavital spent the past few years as defensive coordinator for the Bobcats, leading a top 25 pass defense in the country in 2020. Before his time at Texas State, Spavital was the Co-DC at Texas Tech and worked with the defensive secondary at Houston.

This news comes after Wes Neighbors, Maryland’s safeties coach last season, left for Ole Miss in middle January.
