Aaron Wiggins is officially staying in the NBA Draft, forgoing his remaining eligibility with the Terrapins.
The news came Monday when Wiggins told ESPN about his decision. Wiggins pointed to the feedback and information he’s received from teams during the pre-draft process as his reasons for remaining in the draft:
“The last couple of weeks, being able to go through team workouts, the G League Elite Camp, and the NBA Combine, being able to play my game has been beneficial for me,” Wiggins said, according to ESPN. “I’ve shown teams things they’ve never seen before. Teams have been surprised by what I showed. I’ve loved the information and feedback I’ve received and didn’t want to wait until the last minute with my decision. I’m ready to take the next step. At the end of the day, you have to make the best decision and the one that will benefit you the most.”
The 6-foot-6 Wiggins finished second on Maryland in scoring at 14.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game during 2020-21. He appeared in 96 games (50 starts) during his time with the Terrapins.
It has been a busy offseason for Maryland. Leading scorer Eric Ayala is returning to school after testing the draft waters but Darryl Morsell and Wiggins will be leaving. Morsell eventually withdrew from the draft but is transferring to Marquette.
Best of luck to Wiggins as he begins his professional career!
