There’s a big reason to celebrate in College Park this week.

Monday night, Terrapins starting offensive lineman Johari Branch announced on Twitter that he plans to return to the program for the 2022 season. That’s a huge boost for the Terrapins, returning guaranteed size and experience up front.

“After giving it a great deal of thought, I’m not ready to close this chapter of my life just yet,” Branch wrote. “I’m excited to announce that I will be returning to The Shell to play for the University of Maryland for one more season. Go Terps!”

Branch has played in all 17 games for the Terrapins each of the past two seasons. He played a key role on a Maryland team that finished the year with a 6-6 record, clinching bowl eligibility for the first time under head coach Mike Locksley.

Prior to his arrival at Maryland, Branch spent time at Eastern Illinois (FCS) and Independence Community College (junior college). He will have one more year of eligibility to use in College Park.

Maryland is in action on Wednesday, Dec. 29 when it plays Virginia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl. Kickoff is set for 2:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
