Maryland ties Big Ten record that has stood for 23 years

Coming into this season, Maryland wasn’t really mentioned among the elite offenses in the Big Ten, but through two weeks, the Terrapins have done something only one other BIG team has accomplished in history.
In Week 1 against Howard, Maryland scored 79 points and then versus Syracuse last Saturday, the Terrapins added 63 more. The team’s 142 points through two games tied the BIG record for most points from a team through two games. The 1996 Ohio State Buckeyes also posted 142 points in the first two contests.
It’s the third-highest mark for points in the first two weeks of the season all time as well. The 2015 Ole Miss Rebels hold the record with 149 points.

Transfer quarterback Josh Jackson has led the way with 541 passing yards, seven touchdowns and only one interception. Junior running backs Jake Funk, Tayon Fleet-Davis and Javon Leake all have at least 130 rushing yards, and Maryland possesses three backs with at least six carries and a rushing average of more than 10 yards per carry.
Of course the Maryland defense hasn’t been too shabby either. The Terrapins shutout Howard and allowed 20 points to Syracuse, who possessed one of the best ACC offenses a year ago.
