Maryland tight end announces decision to medically retire from football

Joshua Jennings, a 2nd-year tight end on the Maryland football team, has medically retired from football, he announced on a post to his X account on Monday.

Jennings, a native of Frederick, Md., had not appeared in a game during his time with the Terrapins since arriving in 2022.

“I would first like to thank the entire UMD football staff, my trainers, my family, and everyone that has helped me along my athletic journey. This sport has helped me in ways I had never imagined and I will forever be thankful for having this opportunity,” he wrote. “With that being said, I am medically retiring from football. I will always be grateful for being gifted with the ability to have played this sport.”

Maryland is 4-0 on the season with its last game a 31-9 victory over Michigan State. The Terrapins next host Indiana in College Park, with kickoff on Saturday set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
