One of Maryland’s top wide receivers won’t be stepping on the field for the remainder of the 2019 season, and will instead redshirt for the final six games on the schedule.

DJ Turner, who was  arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He hasn’t played in the three games since his arrest. Now, head coach Mike Locksley has confirmed that Turner will use the 2019 season as a redshirt year.

“We’re going to keep supporting him as we have been,” Locksley told the Washington Post. “But we’re going to utilize the redshirt season that he has and hopefully get him back next year to play.”

Turner played in three games this season, catching four passes for 84 yards. He also returned three punts for 107 yards and a touchdown.

In his first three seasons at Maryland, Turner caught 20 passes for 210 yards with one touchdown. With the slew of injuries the Terrapins have dealt with this season, Turner could’ve carved out a key role in the offense. But it sounds like that will have to wait until next season.
