Two Terrapins have been benched for violating the student-athlete code of conduct, according to head coach D.J. Durkin.

Freshman safety Markquese Bell and junior cornerback Alex Woods are currently unable to participate in practice or compete in a game. According to the Baltimore Sun, neither player is expected to play in Maryland’s Sept. 2 game against No. 23 Texas.

“They will be held out of practice or playing until that is resolved,” Durkin told reporters.

There has been no specification of the situation or what either player did to violate the student-athlete code of conduct.

Bell was one of Maryland’s top prospects from the 2018 recruiting class. The four-star athlete was ranked as the third-best player from New Jersey and is a top 200 player, according to 247Sports.

Woods is also a newcomer to the Terrapins after transferring from Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Durkin also did not provide any indication of how long the suspensions could last.
