Matt Campbell has locked in his first recruit since taking over at Penn State. It’s a player he’s been familiar with for a while.

Bryson Williams, a safety from Omaha, announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Saturday. He made a post to his X account to reveal the news.

As mentioned, Matt Campbell is very familiar with Williams already. After he extended an offer to Williams in May, the 6-foot-4, 175-pounder pledged to the Cyclones just over a month later after taking an official visit. He went on to sign his NLI on Dec. 3 during the Early Signing Period.

Things have obviously changed since then. On Monday, Campbell was hired by Penn State as its next head coach, ending a 10-year run with the Cyclones. The next day, Williams was released from his NLI, later picking up offers from both Minnesota and Purdue.

He will indeed play for Campbell after all, but at Penn State, not Iowa State. He joins a 2026 class that has seen just two players sign.

As a senior at Westside High School in Omaha, Williams totaled 66 tackles and three interceptions. He also recovered four fumbles.

Here’s a look at some of his high school highlights from Hudl:
