Nebraska is looking for a pivotal breakthrough heading into Matt Rhule’s 3rd season with the program. However, one of the pieces that was landed in the transfer portal is no longer with the program.
During Saturday’s press conference, Rhule confirmed Nebraska has dismissed wide receiver Hardley Gilmore IV from the program. Gilmore spent his freshman season at Kentucky and was expected to factor into the rotation this fall.
“We dismissed Hardley Gilmore from the team, we wish him all the best moving forward,” said Rhule.
When pressed for details, Rhule did not get into specifics of the decision, other than noting the move was not related to any sort of criminal activity on the part of Gilmore.
“He just won’t be with us anymore,” Rhule said.
Gilmore was a 4-star composite receiver coming out of high school, heading to Kentucky where he appeared in 7 games as a true freshman. He recorded 6 catches for 153 yards and a touchdown, including a 9-yard carry in his best game vs. Murray State.
The good news is Nebraska still has transfer WR Dane Key on the roster, a figure who is expected to play a key role in the passing game with Dylan Raiola this season.
