Matt Rhule sat down with Colin Cowherd on Friday to talk about the best coaches the Nebraska HC has faced in at the professional and college level. One name in the college ranks came to mind first for Rhule.
Rhule has played against the likes of Bill Belichick and others in the NFL. When asked about one of the toughest coaches Rhule faced in college, he went back to his days in the Big 12 with Baylor.
Rhule coached at Baylor from 2017-2019. One name that came to mind for Rhule was Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy. Rhule also thought Gundy has done a great job of doing more with less.
“I don’t know him personally very well, but I’ve always thought Mike Gundy did more with not as much as everybody else. He’s never had like the 4-star or 5-star recruiting classes. He was gonna find a way to win 9, 10, or 11 games every year. Every game you went into you thought you were a step ahead of him and then bang he was a step ahead of you. I think he’s one of the great coaches in college football that doesn’t get near enough recognition.”

There’s a reason Gundy has been with the Cowboys for so long and Rhule understands why. Rhule will now be facing the likes of Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day, and James Franklin in the B1G.
Grant Bricker covers the B1G for Saturday Tradition. His previous stops include the Williamson Homepage and Nashville Post.
