Malachi Coleman’s first career touchdown at Nebraska was a beauty.
Coleman, being elevated to a starting role for Week 8 against Northwestern, streaked down the sideline before cutting in to catch a well-thrown ball from Heinrich Haarberg early in the 4th quarter. The score put Nebraska up 17-6.

Following the game, head coach Matt Rhule noted that he originally didn’t think the play would work. Instead, WRs coach Garrett McGuire insisted that the Huskers run the play.
When it worked, Rhule told reporters he had to apologize to McGuire over the headset.
“We actually had another play we thought we’d hit him on all week. He’s running through the secondary for the love of the game, to open up (Alex) Bullock and we always say ‘hey you could be open.’ Actually, Garrett said to me ‘it’s going to be open.’ I told him he’s nuts. I had to say I’m sorry, said ‘Garrett you were right’ over the headset.”
