Johnson has had a whirlwind of a college career. He started at Ohio State and spent 2 years in Columbus before transferring to South Carolina for his next 2 years. Then he transferred back to Ohio State for the 2024-25 campaign. That was set to be his final year of eligibility, but he was limited to just 10 games.
Thus, Johnson is now seeking a medical hardship waiver in order to be eligible for a 6th season of college basketball. If he does get that waiver, he’ll be heading back to South Carolina for a 2nd stint in Columbia.
The best years of Johnson’s career were at South Carolina. In 2023-24, he averaged 14.2 points per game and helped the Gamecocks earn a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
South Carolina went just 2-16 in SEC play this past season, missing the postseason altogether. The Gamecocks have been aggressive in the transfer portal so far this offseason as they’ve also added Treysen Eaglestaff via the portal.
