Mel Tucker talked about how Michigan State is planning on preparing for its game with Penn State. This was revealed at Monday’s presser.
Tucker stated that the Spartans will not be using pads at practice leading up to the matchup. This is the fourth straight week that Michigan State has not been able to do that. The Michigan State HC said that the team can’t afford to use pads at the moment.
Tucker said MSU won’t be putting on pads and hitting this week in preparing for Penn State. “We just can’t afford to do that.” It’s the fourth straight week of no hitting, which lines up with the suspensions of the 8 players after the incident at Michigan.

This lines up with the suspensions of the eight Michigan State players who were involved in the Michigan Stadium tunnel fight following the loss to Michigan.
The Spartans suffered a 39-31 double overtime loss to Indiana in Week 12. We’ll see how this effects how Michigan State plays against Penn State with the Land-Grant Trophy on the line.
Michigan State won last year’s game by a very close margin. The Spartans edged the Nittany Lions 30-27.
