Memphis announces selection of permanent head coach to replace Mike Norvell

Memphis has settled on a permanent head coach to replace Mike Norvell.
Norvell is leaving the program to take the head coaching position at Florida State, and it was announced recently he will not be coaching the Tigers in the Cotton Bowl. That distinction fell to interim head coach Ryan Silverfield. It also means Norvell leaves Memphis with a 38-15 overall record in four seasons with the program.
On Friday, Memphis announced a permanent head coach, and it is being awarded to Silverfield. Silverfield has been with the program since 2016 and has experience at the high school, collegiate, and NFL levels.

That means Silverfield’s first game as head coach of the Tigers will come against James Franklin and Penn State in the Cotton Bowl. It will definitely be a big test for the Tigers, but at least the team has a clear direction with a new head coach.
