D’Eriq King left Tuesday’s Cheez-It Bowl after sustaining what appeared to be a significant knee injury.

It goes without saying that King is crucial to the Miami Hurricanes. After beginning his career at Houston, King opted out of the 2019 season after four games and eventually transferred to Miami for 2020.

In 10 games this season, King threw for 2,570 yards and accounted for 26 total touchdowns. He led Miami to an 8-2 record heading into the bowl game and also announced earlier that he would be returning for 2021 with sights set on chasing a national championship with the Hurricanes.

Unfortunately, King was injured while running in the open field against the Oklahoma State defense. As he made one cut, his right knee appeared to buckle in a scary fashion.

King stayed down after this play and was eventually helped to the locker room:

According to the broadcast, King declined the cart, but he appeared to be in serious pain as two assistants helped him to the locker room:

Hopefully the injury proves to be less serious than it initially looked.
