When the Dallas Cowboys lost their starting defensive end in DeMarcus Lawrence, they needed one player to step up.
That player was former Penn State star and starting rookie inside linebacker Micah Parsons, who played his first game as a defensive end since high school in the 20-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
In the game against the Chargers, Parsons accounted for 4 quarterback hits and a sack on Justin Herbert. He led all edge rushers in pass rush win rate. In the previous week against Tampa Bay, Parsons forced four tight-window targets, which tied any linebacker in five seasons.
Here’s a look at the full dominant numbers produced by Parsons in the game:
In Week 1, #Cowboys Micah Parsons played ILB and forced 4 tight-window targets, tied for most by any linebacker in 5 seasons, per NFL Next Gen Stats.
In Week 2, he was standup DE and led all edge rushers in pass rush win rate, beating his block within 2.5 seconds 39% of time.— Ed Werder (@WerderEdESPN) September 20, 2021

Parsons is already becoming a dominant and dynamic playmaker for Dallas in his first two games. There is no doubt he will continue to impact Dallas’ defense this season and be considered for the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
