Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow are among the best quarterbacks in the NFL these days. But they also hold a healthy amount of respect for one another.
That was evident by Mahomes’ message to Burrow on the field following the Cincinnati Bengals’ victory in Arrowhead Stadium, which clinched a berth in the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams.
NFL Films released mic’d-up footage of the postgame handshake between Burrow and Mahomes.
Mahomes embraced Burrow and said, “Way to play, man. Go win it all.”
The Bengals overcame an 18-point deficit to topple the Chiefs in overtime. After the game, Mahomes took blame for the loss after the offense only scored 3 points in the second half, which came by way of a last-second field goal to tie. Mahomes’ interception in overtime ultimately set up the Bengals’ winning drive.
In a post-game interview with CBS Sports, Burrow was nearly speechless.
“Our defense was unbelievable in the second half,” Burrow said. “They had a great plan on the defensive side against us, and we struggled a little bit. … I’m just a little speechless right now. I don’t even know what to say.”
“Go win it all.”@PatrickMahomes gave @JoeyB some parting advice.
