Michael Barrett has decided to come back to Michigan for another year. Barrett broke the news with an Instagram post on Sunday.

Barrett played in all 14 games for Michigan this season. He compiled 72 total tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and 2 interceptions.

Barrett had this to say about the decision to return to Michigan:

“Firstly, I want to start by thanking God for my many blessings and the ability to play this sport: As well as the opportunity to be in this position. …To my teammates, thank you for being my brothers both on and off the field. With that being said, we’re only just getting started. I will be returning to the University of Michigan for my last year of eligibility to complete my master’s program and finish what I started with my brothers.”

Barrett will be one of the leaders on the Wolverines defense once again in 2023. Fans should expect much of the same out of Michigan’s linebackers now that a leader like Barrett is coming back.

The Michigan defense as a whole was one of the best in the country this season. The Wolverines allowed 13.4 points per game, which was the fifth-fewest in the country.

Barrett will be earning his master’s degree from Michigan.
