New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is making a big difference in the community. The former Ohio State and current NFL star is making a sizable donation to help eliminate medical expenses for those in need.
Thomas is making a donation to RIP Medical Debt, a nonprofit organization, that will eliminate $2.3 million in past due medical bills for those struggling to make payments in the New Orleans area. The Athletes First agency released the statement on the wide receiver’s charitable efforts.
“I’m honored to support my community in this way and make an impact in the city that’s been so welcoming to me,” Thomas said in the news release. “I hope these families get a little relief in knowing their medical bills have been taken care of during these very difficult times in our country.”
According to NOLA.com, Thomas’s donation will impact over 1,000 individuals.
Since RIP Medical Debt was started in 2014, it has eliminated over $1 billion in past due medical expenses. That total will continue to increase with Thomas’s generous donation.
