Michigan 5-star freshman QB J.J. McCarthy using portion of NIL to donate to charity

New Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is going to use the opportunities he receives with name, image and likeness to help the Ann Arbor community.
In a Twitter post this week, McCarthy said that helping future generations is a cause that is close to his heart. The former 5-star prospect says he will be donating a percentage of his earnings to non-profit and charitable organizations.
“I am excited about the opportunities NIL will afford for me and my fellow college athletes. While it is a new era for college athletes, I came to Michigan to play football and earn a degree from one of the best universities in the world,” McCarthy said on Twitter. “Anyone that knows me, and my family, knows how important it is to make an impact on future generations and to help make this world a better place for them. I now have an even bigger opportunity to do that.
“I will promise to donate a percentage of everything I earn through NIL to non-profit organizations such as C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor and Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago in my quest to impact lives of future generations.”

It’s pretty cool to see McCarthy using his platform to help out the community.
McCarthy is battling Cade McNamara and Alan Bowman for the starting job for the Wolverines this season. The 5-star quarterback was heralded as the next big leader of the Michigan offense, and we’ll see when he gets his opportunity.
