Michigan had a strong performance from the top down in its season-opening blowout win against Minnesota this past Saturday.
The win highlighted a number of key Wolverines. With so many players making an impact, that left Michigan no choice but to honor a whole slew of players in its selection of Players of the Week.
Let’s start with the offense. There was a whole lot to like as the Wolverines’ offense ran rampant over the Gophers.
Four different running backs proved key to Michigan’s success on the ground as the team racked up more than 250 yards rushing. That led to Zach Charbonnet, Hassan Haskins, Chris Evans, and Blake Corum to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors.

These four combined to tally four touchdowns on Saturday. Haskins led the way with 82 yards on six carries. Charbonnet wasn’t far behind as he finished with 70 yards on four carries.
Fullback Ben Mason joined the stable of Wolverine backs to be honored. He scored a touchdown pass through the air.

Upfront, offensive linemen Andrew Vastardis and Jalen Mayfield were honored for their work opening holes for that aggressive Michigan running attack. Defensively, Kwity Paye was honored after a four-tackle, two-sack performance.

To wrap things up, Mike Barrett had the rare honor of earning both Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week. Defensively, Barrett was all over the place as he finished with seven tackles and a sack. On special teams, Barrett had a 66-yard kickoff return while also recovering a Michigan botched kickoff return later in the game.
