Carnell Tate, a 5-star wide receiver at IMG Academy, is strongly considering Michigan for his college destination. Apparently current Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy has a lot to do with it.

In an interview with TheWolverine.com, Tate said that he’s considering Michigan has a potential landing spot because of McCarthy’s recruiting efforts.

“JJ is my guy. He’s been recruiting me hard,” Tate said while speaking with TheWolverine.com. “He tells me that Michigan is the place to be.”

According to 247Sports, Tate ranks as the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and is the No. 3 receiver for the cycle. He’s also considering Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama and several other premier programs.

Adding a player like Tate to the 2023 recruiting class would obviously be a huge victory for Jim Harbaugh and his staff. He would immediately compete for playing time in Ann Arbor and could be the playmaker in the passing attack the program needs.

There’s still a lot of recruiting to be done. And while Harbaugh and his staff are obviously putting in some hard work, it sounds like McCarthy is working overtime to land one of the top receivers in 2023.

Below are some of Tate’s high school highlights:
