Michigan beats out multiple top SEC teams for 4-star DL in class of 2025

Michigan added a significant player to its 2025 recruiting class on Monday afternoon.

The Wolverines secured a commitment from 4-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams. He chose Michigan over offers from programs such as Tennessee and Texas A&M, amongst other national powerhouses.

Williams shared the news of his commitment with On3’s Hayes Fawcett:

Williams is a significant addition for Michigan in the class of 2025. He’s the No. 236 overall player and the No. 29 defensive lineman in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the 6 player from the state of Illinois.

Williams attends Palatine High School in Palatine, Illinois. He’s listed at 6-foot-6, 265 pounds. He initially earned an offer from Michigan over a year ago — back in April of 2023. Miami, Oregon, Auburn and Florida State are amongst the programs who offered Williams a scholarship in the ensuing months.

Michigan is off to a relatively-slow start overall in the class of 2025, with just 6 commits to this point in the cycle. However, the Wolverines now have 3 verbal commitments from defensive linemen — all of whom are currently considered to be 4-star prospects in the 2025 class. It’s been an impressive start for new Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito, who joined the staff this past offseason.

Overall, Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 47 nationally per 247Sports Composite rankings. However, with several months still to go before the Early Signing Period, there’s still plenty of time for the Wolverines to put together another elite high school recruiting class.
