Michigan knows that the odds are stacked against the Wolverines in this year’s version of The Game vs. Ohio State. However, Sherrone Moore’s group also knows they have won 3 straight in the series, including 2 of those games as underdogs.

While the odds are especially stiff in this one, the Wolverines came out of the gates with virtually a flawless first quarter. And early in the second, Michigan broke through with the first big plays of The Game.

After getting stopped on fourth down in the red zone, Michigan’s defense came up with a massive sequence. The Wolverines stuffed a couple of short runs by Ohio State to force a 3rd-and-long and took advantage of a poor choice by Will Howard.

Ohio State’s quarterback tried to throw an out route near the sticks to Carnell Tate, but the route never developed. Tate did not create the necessary separation, and it was an easy pass for Aamir Hall to step in front of and return inside the 10-yard line.

Michigan would cash in that possession with a short touchdown run, delivering the first touchdown in The Game and a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter. For a massive underdog, that’s how the Wolverines needed to start this one.
