Michigan’s coaching staff received close to $600,000 in performance bonuses following the conclusion of the 2018 season, according to a report.

This week, MLive.com reported that members of the Michigan football staff earned approximately $586,000 in performance bonuses after the Wolverines’ Peach Bowl appearance. Michigan lost the game 41-15 to Florida in Atlanta.

Per Jim Harbaugh’s contract, the head coach is entitled to a $200,000 bonus if Michigan “plays in a bowl game selected by the College Football Playoff selection committee.” It does include New Year’s Six bowl games.

Assistant head coach and passing-game coordinator Pep Hamilton received a sizable bonus, as well. He receives a “bowl bonus plan” that equals two months salary if Michigan participates in a New Year’s Six bowl game. According to MLive.com, that would equal approximately $166,667.

With Michigan playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game, the remaining assistants will receive a minimum of $20,000 in bonuses. Had the Wolverines won, those coaches would’ve earned at least $40,000.

Offensive line coach Ed Warriner and linebackers coach Al Washington both had contracts that allowed them to collect twice the regular bowl rate in this season. They each earned $40,000. Running backs coach Jay Harbaugh and safeties coach Chris Partridge each earned $30,000.
