Michigan DB announces decision to enter transfer portal after 3 years in Ann Arbor

A Michigan defensive back has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal after spending 3 seasons in Ann Arbor.
George Johnson announced on social media his intent to hit the portal and explore his options outside of Ann Arbor. He played sparingly during his time with the Wolverines and will now look to make an impact with another program.
“I am beyond grateful for being molded into the man I am today by having the opportunity to attend The University of Michigan,” Johnson wrote. “I have learned more than I would have ever imagined while here these past three years.
Because of his redshirt year and the COVID-19 waiver, Johnson still has 3 years of eligibility to use at his next destination. He will be immediately eligible for the 2022 season.
Over the past 2 seasons, Johnson has appeared in 5 games with the Wolverines and was credited with 1 tackle. He was an Academic All-B1G selection following the 2020 season.
Michigan concluded the 2021 season with a B1G title, a College Football Playoff appearance and a 12-2 record.
Johnson was a 3-star prospect out of Stuart, Florida as a member of the 2019 recruiting class. He committed to Michigan over offers from nearly two dozen other programs, including Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oregon and others.
Johnson is the third defensive player from Michigan to hit the portal this week. Linebacker Anthony Solomon and defensive back Darion Green-Warren are also leaving the program.
