The Army-Navy game is probably the best rivalry in college football. Not only is there a lot of disdain for the other –in the most respectful way, of course — but it’s a game that symbolizes more than football. It’s why the game gets its own Saturday at the end of every regular season.
So, when you’re a part of that intense rivalry matchup on one side or the other, it’s hard to shake the ties to that game. And Michigan defensive line coach Shaun Nua still has a little hatred pent up from his earlier years.
Nua was the defensive line coach at Navy from 2012-17 before moving on to Arizona State in 2018 and eventually landing at Michigan in 2019. He still isn’t a big fan of Army, and because the Black Knights are coming to Ann Arbor, he has another chance to hand the team another loss.
“I never liked Army,” Nua told Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News.

Nua’s first four years went pretty well at Navy, with the Midshipmen winning all four matchups from 2012-15. It was part of a 14-year winning streak for the Naval Academy.
Things have taken a turn, though. In Nua’s last two years, Army posted wins both within a single score. The Black Knights also won last year’s bout, 17-10.

So, Nua will have a chance to get back on the right side of the scoreboard against Army, even if isn’t technically a rivalry game for Michigan.
You can take the man out of the Army-Navy Game, but you can’t take the game out of the man.
