Michigan edge says Ohio State title is ‘not a real win’ because of loss to Wolverines

Michigan edge rusher Derrick Moore has been with the Wolverines since 2022, and during that time has never experienced a loss against Ohio State. That includes Nov. 30, 2024, in Columbus, a 13-10 Michigan victory.
After a national championship season in 2023, 2024 was a year of transition in Ann Arbor as Jim Harbaugh returned to the NFL and Sherrone Moore took the reins. The Wolverines finished the year 8-5 but were able to maintain bragging rights in the rivalry for at least another year. The Buckeyes, of course, still went on to win their first championship since 2014.
To Derrick Moore (no relation to Sherrone Moore), the Buckeyes’ title is all well and good, but the Wolverines maintain the upper hand in the rivalry.
“I congratulate them on the win, but you know it’s not a real win if y’all don’t beat us. So, I’m gonna congratulate them on their win, but this year is gonna be different,” the rising senior said at Big Ten Media Days, per Eleven Warriors.
The 2024 season, of course, was the first with a 12-team College Football Playoff field. Without that, Moore said, the Buckeyes would have never been able to hoist the trophy.
“If the playoff extension wasn’t around, they wouldn’t have won the national championship,” Moore said. “We pretty much look at it like, ‘Hey man, y’all had an easy little run. We helped y’all along the way. So we pretty much helped y’all build back up.’ But like I said, after that game, they dominated everybody that came in front of them. So I’ve got to give all the credit to them.”
We’ll see if the Wolverines can make it 5 in a row — matching their longest win streak in the series since the 1920s — when The Game shifts back to Michigan Stadium on Nov. 29.
