Michigan baseball was eliminated by Louisville on Monday following an 11-9 loss. The Wolverines were 1 of 2 B1G teams left in the NCAA Men’s Baseball Tournament, along with Maryland.
Michigan got off to a hot start in the 1st inning. Joe Stewart and Matt Frey both doubled to knock in 1 run each to give the Wolverines an early 2-0 lead. Then Louisville responded immediately in the bottom of the 1st.
The Cardinals had an offensive explosion, with 7 runs coming across the plate. Michigan needed an answer, and Matt Frey delivered once again with solo shot in the top of the 3rd inning to cut the Louisville lead to 4 runs.
The 5th inning was where it got interesting. Clark Elliot and Jimmy Obertop fed off of Frey’s energy and blasted homers of their own, tying the game at 7 runs a piece. The bats didn’t stop there for Michigan, as the Wolverines added on 2 more runs in the 6th inning as well to take the lead at 9-7.

The 8th inning is one that Michigan fans would like to forget. A questionable call at 2nd base allowed for Louisville to eventually tie up the game with a single. The Cardinals later took the lead back with a 2-run HR that would seal the deal.
