Going into Week 1, questions still remained about who would be the permanent starting QB for Michigan.

After watching the Wolverines take on Colorado State, there was no question who should have the start, in fans’ minds at least.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh announced last week that returner Cade McNamara would start the season opener against Colorado State and that J.J. McCarthy would start in Week 2 against Hawaii. McNamara led Michigan to the Big Ten championship and the College Football Playoff in 2021, and would be given seniority.

But, the QB wasn’t able to repeat the same kind of success on Saturday, completing just half his passes in a little more than two quarters.

Enter J.J McCarthy, the sophomore and fan favorite. McCarthy entered the game in the third quarter and broke free for a 20-yard touchdown run shortly after. The QB helped the Wolverines open a huge 37-point lead and kept it throughout the remainder of the game.

McCarthy will start next week, and will he be the permanent starter for the Wolverines? According to fans, the decision has already been made.
