Michigan won a massive recruiting battle on Friday evening.

The Wolverines landed a commitment from 4-star cornerback Shamari Earls. The talented defensive back had been committed to Georgia prior to making this announcement.

“This decision comes down to personal reasons and finding the best possible fit for me both academically and athletically,” Earls wrote in-part.

Earls is a significant addition for Michigan in this upcoming class. He’s the No. 87 overall player and the No. 11 cornerback in the country for the 2025 recruiting cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 2 player from the state of Virginia.

Earls is listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. He attends Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia.

Earls had been committed to UGA since July. He took an official visit to Ann Arbor over the summer prior to committing to Georgia, but it seems the Michigan coaching staff never gave up on earning his commitment. He’ll have the opportunity to officially sign with Michigan during the Early Signing Period in December.

With Earls in the fold, Michigan now has 18 commitments in the class of 2025. He’s the 4th defensive back to commit to Michigan so far in this cycle. Overall, Michigan’s class sits at No. 13 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
