With Jim McElwain officially becoming the new head coach at Central Michigan, Jim Harbaugh had to annoint a new wide receivers coach before the Wolverines’ take on Florida in the Peach Bowl.
According to MLive.com, Harbaugh is tabbing Ben McDaniels as the wide receivers coach for the next month as Michigan begins its bowl preparations. The move, as of right now, is temporary.
McDaniels joined Michigan’s staff prior to the 2018 season as an offensive analyst. Prior to arriving in Ann Arbor, he spent time in the NFL with the Chicago Bears as an offensive analyst, as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos.
He’s the younger brother of New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Central Michigan announced on Sunday that it had hired McElwain, who had spent 10 months on Harbaugh’s staff. He had previous head coaching stints at Colorado State and Florida prior to coaching the receivers at Michigan.
The Wolverines and Gators square off in Atlanta on Dec. 29. It will be the third meeting in four seasons.
