Michigan is fending off outside distractions as the Wolverines hit Week 10 against Purdue, but Jim Harbaugh’s squad looked like a team right at home in the opening quarter against the Boilermakers.

Coming off a bye week, Michigan opened Week 10 with a 17-0 run against Purdue. The Wolverines have been fierce on either side of the ball, and Blake Corum has been a big part of that.

At the end of the first quarter, Corum had 28 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Corum’s touchdowns came within the first 9 minutes of the game.

Under center, QB JJ McCarthy went 7-for-9 in the first quarter for 106 yards. His favorite target has been Donovan Edwards with Edwards hauling in 3 catches for 41 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Wolverines have barely flinched. Purdue has gained just 23 yards of offense and went 0-for-3 on 3rd-down conversions while recording just 1 first down. For context, Michigan had 9 first downs in the first quarter.

Purdue QB Hudson Card has been rattled a bit and is just 2-for-6 to start the game with 12 yards. Will Johnson also picked off an errant pass to set up a field goal for Michigan.

There may be noise and questions being tossed around outside of Ann Arbor, but that certainly has not spilled over into Michigan’s Week 10 start. We’ll see if Purdue has an answer, but the opening quarter was all Wolverines.
