Michigan QB Joe Milton announces decision to hit transfer portal

Michigan will have one less player in its quarterback battle this offseason.
On Thursday, quarterback Joe Milton announced his decision to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. He began the 2020 season as the starter for the Wolverines and appeared in six games, throwing for 1,077 yards but not eclipsing 100 yards after the loss to Indiana.
Milton announced his portal decision on Twitter and indicated he has three years of eligibility remaining:

Milton finishes his time at Michigan with 1,194 yards passing and five touchdowns to six interceptions. He was a four-star recruit for the class of 2018.
It was always going to be an interesting offseason for Michigan at the quarterback position following 2020. Sophomore Cade McNamara played well at times, throwing for 425 yards and five touchdowns without an interception in four games played.
Beyond the emergence of McNamara, the Wolverines also added five-star recruit J.J. McCarthy via the 2021 recruiting class. McCarthy is the No. 2 pro-style QB and No. 24 player nationally for the cycle.
The quarterback battle for the Wolverines is still a position to watch entering 2021, but that battle will not include Milton.
