Jim Harbaugh needed to work quickly to find a replacement for co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist, who took the job as head coach at Buffalo over the weekend. It didn’t take long for Harbaugh to name a new assistant.

Sam Webb of 247Sports is reporting that Michigan is expected to hire Kentucky’s Steve Clinkscale as the new pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach for the upcoming season. No details have been confirmed at this time, though Webb reports Clinkscale has agreed to a three-year deal.

Clinkscale has been at Kentucky since 2016, serving as the defensive backs coach under Mark Stoops. This offseason, he added defensive passing game coordinator to his list of responsibilities, which is what he’ll take with him to Ann Arbor.

Prior to his five seasons with the Wildcats, Clinkscale had stops at Cincinnati (2013-15), Illinois (2012), Toledo (2009-11), Western Carolina (2008) and Ashland (2001-07).

Linguist accepted the job as the Buffalo head coach over the weekend, replacing Lance Leipold. He was officially introduced on Monday after spending just a few months with the Wolverines.
