Michigan responds with Colston Loveland TD, late FG for halftime lead vs. MSU

Michigan and Michigan State have produced a low-scoring first half, and a second-quarter swing has the Wolverines carrying a 9-7 lead into halftime.
In the first quarter, it was the Spartans who dominated by holding the ball for over 13 minutes and racking up 2 long drives. However, one of those drives came up empty with a missed field goal, and that kick looms large at the break.
That’s because Michigan dominated the second quarter much in the way that MSU did in the first. Michigan’s touchdown drive covered 10 plays and 64 yards and was cashed in on a touchdown pass from Davis Warren to Colston Loveland.
Already, Loveland is proving to be a problem for the Spartans with 5 catches for 44 yards at the break.

After the touchdown, Michigan botched the snap on the PAT, keeping the Wolverines at 6 points. However, Michigan would get its chance to score again before the break.
With 20 seconds left in the half, MSU tried to push for some points of its own, but that wound up being a bad decision. Aidan Chiles held onto the ball for too long behind the line of scrimmage and was eventually stripped by Josaiah Stewart with Kenneth Grant recovering.

One quick play would set Michigan up for a field goal and the 9-7 lead at the break. Considering how much MSU has controlled the first half, that is a major win for Sherrone Moore’s group, and Michigan gets the ball coming out of halftime.
We will see if Michigan State’s missed field goal or Michigan’s botched PAT is the miscue that plays a pivotal role in the outcome of this one.
