Michigan has had its first member of the 2023 team elect to enter the NCAA transfer portal. According to reports, sophomore RB CJ Stokes is looking to continue his career elsewhere.

From Columbia, South Carolina, Stokes was a standout of the Hammond School. He was rated 3-stars, the No. 739 overall player nationally in the Class of 2021, the No. 60 running back and the No. 8 player in the state of South Carolina on the 247Sports Composite.

Stokes appeared in 11 games as a freshman, including 10 as a running back, while also contributing on special teams. He rushed 55 times for 273 yards with 1 touchdown and caught 1 pass for 15 yards to earn his first varsity letter. He was named U-M’s Offensive Freshman of the Game following his performance against Hawaii, Nebraska, and Illinois.

In 2023, Stokes made just 2 appearances during the season against East Carolina and UNLV, rushing 4 times for 8 yards. He will be able to take a redshirt for the season and have 3 remaining seasons of eligibility with his new team.

The No. 1 Wolverines are gearing up to face No. 4 Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.
