Michigan star Aidan Hutchinson says he’d ‘love’ to play for Houston Texans or Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions currently hold the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.
Despite growing up in Michigan and staring for Michigan in school, UM edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson never considered himself much of a Lions fan. He gravitated toward Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. However, Hutchinson isn’t about to thumb his nose up if the Lions call in April looking to make him the No. 1 choice in the draft.
“It was hard being a Lions fan,” Hutchinson said during a radio appearance Wednesday evening on ESPN 97.5. “The Lions have been struggling for a while. I actually grew up a Patriots fan with Tom Brady and stuff like that. So, I never really loved the Lions too much. But, hey, if they pick me, they’re getting it all.”
Hutchinson is in Houston for the Lombardi Award presentation. The Texans currently sit No. 3 in the draft order. He wouldn’t be opposed to calling the Texans home for a while either.
“When I got off the airplane, it felt right,” Hutchinson said on The Wheelhouse. “I can’t lie to you: Just the air, the atmosphere, the vibes, Houston is a good place to be. If they draft me, I’d love to play for the Texans.”
Hutchinson has rocketed up draft boards this season, recently appearing at No. 1 on Todd McShay’s big board player rankings, supplanting Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux in the top spot. Hutchinson is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
Of course he’d love to be a top draft selection. First, though, he and Michigan will play for a national championship. The Wolverines (12-1), fresh off a Big Ten title game win over Iowa, will face No. 3 Georgia (12-1) in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl on Dec. 31. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
