Michigan State AD Alan Haller wanted to remove former Spartans head coach Mel Tucker months before he was eventually fired this season.
This comes from a report by ESPN’s Dan Murphy, which details how Haller’s wishes to separate from Tucker were shot down by Michigan State administration well before the start of the 2023 season.
Tucker was fired for cause by Haller on Sept. 27 after Tucker admitted to a sexual encounter with sexual assault awareness speaker Brenda Tracy. According to Tracy, the interaction was non-consensual. Even if it was consensual, it was still grounds for termination as Tracy was a school vendor.

This brings up an interesting question that has been asked several times before regarding Tucker’s firing: When did MSU’s administration know Tucker admitted to this encounter? Where do Haller’s wishes to fire him earlier fall on that timeline, according to Murphy’s sources?
Michigan State is currently looking for a new head football coach as well as a new university president.
