Michigan State’s season opener against Western Michigan has been moved up a day.

The Spartans announced on social media that the Week 1 matchup against the Broncos will be played on Friday, Sept. 2 at Spartan Stadium. It had previously been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3.

A kickoff time was not included in the update.

Currently, Michigan State will be the only B1G team in action on Friday. There are 9 games scheduled involving B1G teams on Saturday. There is also a Thursday contest, with Minnesota hosting New Mexico State.

This will be the 17th meeting between Michigan State and Western Michigan on the gridiron. The Spartans have won 12 straight games in the head-to-head series, dating back to 1921.

Michigan State was victorious in the last meeting between the two schools, winning a 51-17 contest in 2019 in East Lansing.
