Week 1 turned into a great performance for Mel Tucker and Michigan State as the Spartans rolled to a road win over Northwestern.

It was a great start to 2021 for the program after Tucker’s first year during the shortened 2020 season. In fact, the Spartan offense performed so well with 38 points against the Wildcats that Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald withheld traditional weekly defensive honors on Monday.

Later Monday evening, Michigan State announced its selections for Players of the Game for the win. Unsurprisingly, the offensive recipient was RB Kenneth Walker III.

Walker also earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor from the B1G after rushing for 264 yards and 4 TDs to open the season. That was a great performance and a great sign for the Spartans moving forward.

The Spartans also recognized 3 defensive players and a member of the special teams unit as Players of the Game. Check it out:
