Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins believes wide receiver Jayden Reed is ready to go for the start of the season.
Hawkins addressed Reed’s absence in some early offseason practices and was not concerned about Reed’s availability during the season. Hawkins spoke highly of Reed and discussed Reed’s work ethic. Hawkins was aware of Reed missing practices and wanted to make it clear that Reed earned time off during the offseason.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Hawkins spoke about Reed’s presence:
“He’s earned some days off,” Hawkins said. “He’s 100 percent ready to go.”
Hawkins addressed how it was important for the coaching staff to limit Reed due to his work ethic:
“He’s one of the guys you have to pull back,” Hawkins said. “He’s a workaholic.”
While Hawkins did not specifically mention Reed’s injury, there was talk in the offseason about Reed dealing with an injury. If it was true that Reed dealt with an injury, he worked to get back to a healthy state.
In 2021, Reed had 59 receptions for 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns. If he can remain healthy, Reed will likely have another great season in 2022.
Michigan State opens up the season against Reed’s former school, Western Michigan, on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
