Michigan State cancels home-and-home with Boise State, replaces series with Power 5 opponent

Michigan State will now face Washington in 2022 and 2023 instead of having a previously-scheduled series with Boise State, the Spartans announced on Friday.
Michigan State and Boise State mutually agreed to cancel the series without penalty.
The Spartans and Huskies previously had a series scheduled for 2028 and 2031, but decided to move that series up to 2022 and 2023.

The programs have met three times total. The Huskies hold a 2-1 lead in the series, with their last win coming in the 1997 Aloha Bowl. Washington won that game 51-23 in Honolulu.
Michigan State’s only victory over the Huskies came in 1969. It was a 27-11 win over the Huskies in East Lansing. Michigan State will travel to Husky Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022. The Spartans will host Washington on Sept. 16, 2023.
Michigan State also has upcoming nonconference games scheduled vs. Boston College, Notre Dame and Oregon over the next decade. The Spartans also now have a gap in their schedule in 2028 and 2031, so it’s possible they could add another Power 5 home-and-home series in those years.
Washington is now set to play Michigan in 2028, rescheduling a nonconference game that was canceled due to the pandemic.
Michigan State opens its 2021 season with Northwestern on Sept. 3.
