Michigan State Spartans defensive end Drew Beesley announced via Twitter he is going to take advantage of the NCAA’s COVID-19 eligibility freeze and return for a sixth season of football in East Lansing.

Beesley was a fifth-year senior and two-year letterman heading into the truncated 2020 season, having got action in 26 games while making 20 career tackles. Beesley had six throw downs for loss and 1.5 sacks prior to this season. He was also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Michigan State went 2-5 in 2020, which was coach Mel Tucker’s first season on the Spartan sideline. The team made their victories count, however, knocking off in-state rival Michigan to win the coveted Paul Bunyan Trophy back from the Wolverines, and upsetting the future West division champion Northwestern Wildcats in what turned out to be the Cats only loss of the regular season.

Beesley will be back next year to run the gauntlet for a sixth and, what must be, final time in the Green and White.
